Everybody Versus I
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
This allegorical poem employs personification to highlight societal inaction and apathy. It parallels the parable of the "bystander effect," suggesting that no one takes ownership when responsibility is diffused among multiple individuals.
So, in our eyes, "Everybody is responsible for clinical governance" is incorrect. Good clinical governance comes from everyone understanding "I am responsible".
I am responsible
AICG embraces the mantra "I am responsible" when it comes to clinical governance. This reflects a culture where everyone in the organisation—whether directly or indirectly involved in care—takes personal ownership of their role in ensuring the well-being and safety of every person.
